Fans get a first look at Tom Cavanagh as Pariah in Crisis on Infinite Earths in a new set photo from the upcoming Arrowverse crossover. Pariah is one of several new characters to be introduced in the highly anticipated Arrowverse crossover, including Arrow staple Lyla Michaels (Audrey Marie Anderson) becoming Harbinger.
Tom Cavanagh is known for playing several different versions Harrison Wells and supervillain Reverse-Flash on The CW’s The Flash. Though he started off as Eobard Thawne posing as Harrison Wells in season 1, the show has introduced a number of alternate universe versions of the character who have joined the team throughout the years. Pariah will be yet another version of Harrison Wells, most likely from a different Earth.
Though it was previously revealed that Wells would become Pariah in Crisis on Infinite Earths, a photo posted by Twitter user @pagmyst of Cavanagh with other members of the Arrowverse cast reveals our first look at the Pariah costume. In the comics, Pariah is introduced in the 12-issue series “Crisis on Infinite Earths.” His real name is Kell Mossa, and he possesses the ability to fly, teleport, is invulnerable to harm and is a brilliant scientist. In the series, Pariah is forced to watch the destruction of several parallel Earths, believing that he is responsible.
Cavanagh isn’t the only actor to play an alternate version of their character in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Brandon Routh, who plays The Atom/Ray Palmer on Legends of Tomorrow, is suiting up as the Man of Steel for the first time since he played the character in 2006’s Superman Returns. Based on the design of his Superman suit, Routh will be playing a more seasoned version from the comic book series “Kingdom Come.” Erica Durance plays Supergirl/Kara Zor-El’s mother Alura Zor-El on Supergirl, and will also be reprising her role as Lois Lane from Smallville during Crisis on Infinite Earths. Fans also hope that David Ramsey, who plays John Diggle/Spartan on Arrow, will play an alternate Earth’s John Stewart/Green Lantern, as teased in last year’s crossover event Elseworlds, but that hasn’t been confirmed.
As Cavanagh’s Pariah is presumably another version of Harrison Wells instead of Kell Mossa, it will be interesting to see what else the crossover will change in regard to the character and their role in the story. In the past, Team Flash has found different versions of Wells from different Earths who are also scientists. It is possible that the crossover will adapt the same story from the comic books and have Wells believe that he somehow triggered the events of the story with his experiments. However, the Arrowverse hasn’t shied away from making major changes to the original characters, so there is also a possibility that Pariah in Crisis on Infinite Earths will be entirely different from his comic book counterpart.
