The CW has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming Arrowverse crossover, Crisis on Infinite Earths. Premiering later this year, Crisis on Infinite Earths will unite all the shows in The CW’s Arrowverse - Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, and Batwoman - for a crossover event that’s expected to dramatically alter the future of the whole shared universe.
In addition to characters from every Arrowverse show, Crisis on Infinite Earths is also including iconic DC Comics characters from other, non-Arrowverse shows, like Smallville and Black Lightning. That’s not all, though, because the crossover is reaching even further back in DC Comics’ television history and including roles for Batman: The Animated Series’ Kevin Conroy and Batman 66’s Burt Ward. And along with those stars, Crisis on Infinite Earths is even having Brandon Routh (who currently plays Ray Palmer/The Atom on Legends of Tomorrow) reprise his role as Superman from Superman Returns. All combined, Crisis on Infinite Earths is aiming to be the biggest superhero television event ever.
This first teaser trailer for Crisis on Infinite Earths plays into that, featuring many of the stars of the Arrowverse suiting up for battle. This is our first look at footage from the crossover and it appears to come from a climactic battle in where our heroes team up with The Monitor. Check it out, below:
The new footage seen in this promo isn’t much, but we can make out what appears to be J’onn J’onzz/Martian Manhunter, Sara Lance/White Canary, Kara Danvers/Supergirl, Barry Allen/The Flash, Kate Kane/Batwoman, as well as Lex Luthor and Jim Corrigan/The Spectre (or is it Osric Chau’s Ryan Choi?) gathered in the quarry where it looks like a major battles takes place. They’re joined by The Monitor, who is the character responsible for gathering all these heroes from across the multiverse. The new footage also gives us another good look Routh’s Kingdom Come-inspired Superman, who will appear alongside the Arrowverse’s own Superman, Tyler Hoechlin as well as Tom Welling’s from Smallville.
Crisis on Infinite Earths is loosely based on the DC Comics event series over the same name, and like that comic book series, the Arrowverse’s Crisis will feature heroes from across the multiverse coming together to stop the Anti-Monitor from destroying all existence. Not only is this an exciting premise with incredibly high stakes and almost certain deaths for major characters, its multiverse-wide threat is what is allows for the many appearances and cameos from stars of previous DC Comics media. It’s both drama and fan service, and like Avengers: Endgame earlier this year, it is sure to have viewers reacting with all sorts of emotions. Crisis on Infinite Earths isn’t holding back, promising to be the biggest crossover ever. And if even the snippets seen in this super quick teaser trailer are anything to go by, it will be.
