Note: This extension also works in Mozilla Thunderbird.
Before
For our example, we decided to focus on the “Tools Menu” in our Firefox Browser. Here is the menu before editing…
A Look at Menu Editor’s Two Modes
Once you have installed the extension you will need to access the “Options” in order to start editing menus. Menu Editor comes with two different modes…”Simple & Advanced”. Here is what “Simple Mode” looks like…to access “Advanced Mode” click on the “Advanced Mode Button” in the lower right corner.
This is “Advanced Mode”…from here you will need to choose the particular menu that you would like to edit. Notice that there are “Reset & Reset All Buttons”.
For those who are curious, these are the entries available for the drop-down menus shown above.
Menu Editor in Action
We selected “Tools” from the drop-down menu on the left and then scrolled through the entries changing “green check marks” to “red Xs” for each entry that we wanted to hide. All that is required is a single click to make the change… Once you have finished editing the menu you can preview it by clicking the “Apply Button” to see if there is any additional editing that you would like to perform. When you are finished click “OK”.
Here is our “Tools Menu” after editing…it certainly got shorter and easier to navigate.
Resetting Menus
Perhaps you decide that you want to undo the changes that you have made to a menu. Find the menu that you are wanting to reset in the drop-down menu and click the “Reset Button”.
Once you have clicked the “Reset Button” you will be presented with the following message window. Click “OK”. Once the menu has finished resetting click “Apply” and then “OK” to finish up and close the “Options Window”.
Conclusion
If you find yourself looking for a way to slim down the menus in your browser, then the Menu Editor extension is definitely worth taking a closer look at.
