Networks are actively revealing their 2016-17 television slates as part of the ongoing TV Upfront Presentations for this year, and The CW has likewise revealed its TV show lineup for this fall. The CW’s original entertainment lineup varies a good deal in terms of genre - from telenovela-inspired Jane the Virgin to the subversive musical rom-com Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and the latest season of long-running supernatural adventure romp Supernatural. Moreover the network now boasts four DC Comics-based TV shows under its watch (all of them co-created by Greg Berlanti): the mystical/martial arts crime drama/action of Arrow, the multi-verse traversing sci-fi mayhem of The Flash, the time-traveling antics of Legends of Tomorrow, and the upbeat super-heroics of Supergirl (now on The CW after airing its first season on CBS).
The CW has released a sizzle reel for its returning DC TV shows this fall, which you can check out above. In addition, first look previews and trailers have been released for a couple of new TV shows debuting on The CW this fall, in the forms of Frequency and No Tomorrow.
Supergirl
Supergirl crossed over with The Flash during its freshman season, but now that the Melissa Benoist-headlined TV series has set up camp at The CW for season 2, there will be more opportunities for Kara Danvers/Zor-El to either team up again with The Flash’s Barry Allen (Grant Gustin), encounter Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) and his fellow time-hopping superheroes on Legends of Tomorrow, and/or even cross paths with Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) and the other members of “Team Arrow” on Arrow. The CW’s Supergirl season 2 teaser (see the video embedded above) alludes to just that, largely through footage recycled from the Supergirl/Flash crossover episode, “Worlds Finest”.
Frequency
Frequency is a TV show adaptation/re-imagining of the 2000 film (of the same name) that was directed by Gregory Hobbit and stars Jim Caviezel as well as Dennis Quaid. Being Human co-creator and longtime Supernatural writer/producer Jeremy Carver created the Frequency TV show, featuring such actors as Peyton List (Mad Men, The Tomorrow People), Riley Smith (Nashville), Mekhi Phifer (Divergent), and Devin Kelley (The Chicago Code, Covert Affairs), among others, in recurring roles. No Tomorrow
No Tomorrow is based on a Brazilian TV show that airs on TV Globo and was created by Scott McCabe, the co-creator and costar of the 2010 comedy web series Copy & Pastry. Detective Raimy Sullivan (Peyton List) has always wanted to prove that she is nothing like her father. In 1996, when Raimy was eight years old, NYPD Officer Frank Sullivan (Riley Smith) left Raimy and her mother, Julie (Devin Kelley), behind when he went deep undercover, got corrupted, and got himself killed. Or so the story has always gone. Few people knew about the secret undercover sting operation Frank was really charged with, led by Stan Moreno (Anthony Ruivivar), who has now risen to Deputy Chief of Police. Frank’s former partner, Lieutenant Satch Reyna (Mekhi Phifer), is now Raimy’s mentor and friend, and he has urged her to let go of the hurt and anger she still feels about Frank’s disappearance and death, but the old pain still lingers. Supergirl returns for season 2 in the fall on The CW. The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8pm on The CW, Arrow in the same timeslot on Wednesdays, and Legends of Tomorrow on Thursdays.
The series centers on a risk-averse quality-control assessor (Tori Anderson), who falls in love with a freewheeling man (Joshua Sasse) who lives life to the fullest because he believes the apocalypse is imminent. They embark on a quest together to fulfill their individual bucket lists, with comedic and poignant results.
Frequency and No Tomorrow will begin airing on The CW this fall.
