Dancing with the Stars sent home its first contestant of the season. Sadly, there will be no last dance for one of the 12 celebrity competitors after their final goodbye.

While the premiere episode of Dancing With The Stars seemed to mostly be about front runner James Van Der Beek and his top-scoring dance or Sailor- Brinkley Cook’s outstanding performance only after a couple days’ notice of joining the show on account of her mother being injured in her last practice, fans had to say their first goodbye of the season to Mary Wilson.

During Monday’s episode, the 12 celebrities danced their second dance in hopes of impressing Carrie Ann Inaba, Len Goodman, and Bruno Tonioli. The celebrities that were up to walk the plank were Ray Lewis and partner Cheryl Burke and Mary Wilson with her partner Brandon Armstrong. After the bottom two were announced, the two celebrities were asked to join host Tom Bergeron and Erin Andrews to hear the judges’ verdict. The show now takes the opinion of the audience and the judges to decide who will be cast off the dance floor first. Carrie Ann decided to save the Supremes singer, while Bruno picked to save Lewis. It all came down to Len, who ultimately chose to keep Lewis.

The judges agreed that neither one of the celebrities should have been placed into the bottom two. The “Baby Love” singer performed a cha-cha for the second week of competition, which earned her and partner Armstrong a 15 out of 30, while Lewis, who also earned a 15 out of 30, danced the foxtrot with his partner Burke and was surprised at the outcome. Wilson said that the entire cast was very supportive throughout the whole journey, adding that her time on the show had brought nothing but positivity to her life.

In the end, someone had to be the first contestant voted off. Many fans took the social media to defend Wilson’s dances as the wanted her to “Keep Them Hanging On”, but they will have to come to grips with her elimination. Due to a new format change, the judges had the opportunity to choose who they would want to save out of the bottom two. Wilson said that she felt that viewers liked her, but just didn’t vote. Now, only time will tell how the remaining contestants will fare throughout the rest of the season.
